Chengdu itinerary
How to spend 3, 4 or 5 days in Chengdu
Build a Chengdu itinerary for 3, 4 or 5 days with pandas, teahouses, Sichuan food, museums and realistic day-trip options.

At a glance
| Length | Core plan | Best extra |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days | Pandas, central Chengdu, teahouse and food | Keep all nights in Chengdu |
| 4 days | Core plan plus one day trip | Dujiangyan, Qingcheng or Sanxingdui |
| 5 days | Two paced day trips or deeper city time | Leshan if heritage is a priority |
A balanced three-day plan
- Day 1: Central Chengdu, a historic neighborhood and an unhurried Sichuan dinner.
- Day 2: Early Panda Base visit, then a lighter afternoon and evening.
- Day 3: People's Park teahouse, a museum or temple, and a focused food route.
Use days four and five carefully
Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng can be paired only if your pace is active and you accept a long day. Otherwise, give each a clearer focus. Sanxingdui works better for archaeology and museums; Leshan works better for monumental heritage and a longer excursion.
Common Chengdu mistakes
- Visiting the panda base in the middle of a hot day and expecting active animals.
- Crossing the city repeatedly for isolated restaurant recommendations.
- Treating every commercial historic street as a full-day attraction.
- Planning hotpot immediately before a very early departure.
Reservations and getting around
Chengdu has multiple panda facilities and multiple railway stations, so confirm the exact place shown on your ticket. Use official reservation channels for major attractions, particularly during weekends and public holidays. Metro and car travel are both useful; group stops by district to reduce time in traffic.
Frequently asked questions
Is three days enough for Chengdu?
Yes for the essential city experience, but four days is better if you want one nearby heritage or nature excursion.
Which panda base should I visit?
The Chengdu Research Base is the best-known choice, but confirm the entrance area and current visitor rules on its official site before booking.
Should I stay near Chunxi Road?
It is convenient for a first stay, but not mandatory. Choose a metro-connected area that fits your evening preferences and transfer plans.
